FLUORIDE ACTION NETWORK (FAN) is one of the best places to gain information about Fluoride.
An international coalition to end water fluoridation and alert people to fluoride's environmental and health risks. It contains a huge database with links which document the many, many Published Peer Reviewed Scientific Studies conducted at prestigious Universities and Institutions.

CDC -- The CDC (Center for Disease Control) states that: “(Fluoride’s) actions primarily are topical for both adults and children”.
CDC – The CDC in their “Recommendations for Using Fluoride”(circa 2001), states “the DOSAGE of supplemental Fluoride for infants under 6 months of age is 0.0 mg.”
CDC – The CDC states: “For children under age 8, parents should supervise brushing and place, at MOST, a small PEA size dab of toothpaste on the brush.”
The FDA recommends calling poison control if more than that is swallowed.
A pea sized amount of toothpaste contains 0.3 mg of FLUORIDE which is equivalent to 16 ounces of Dallas tap water.
34 ounces of Dallas tap water contains 0.7 mg of FLUORIDE.
CDC - Based in part by a study from 1999-2002, the CDC found that approximately 40% of children under the age of 18 suffer from some form of “dental fluorosis”.
CDC - From that study, the CDC also discovered evidence that African Americans suffer from higher rates of fluorosis than Caucasian Americans.
CDC – The CDC warns about the condition of “dental fluorosis”, especially for developing children under the age of 8.
Definition: ATSDR – “Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry”
CDC -- Regarding dental fluorosis, the CDC’s ATSDR states: “…in severe cases, the teeth are pitted and are fragile, and sometimes the teeth can break.”
CDC -- The CDC’s ATSDR states: “…Fluoride can cross the placenta from the mother’s blood to the developing fetus.”
CDC – The CDC’s ATSDR warns about consuming large amounts of fluoride in that “…it can cause stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhea. Extremely large amounts can cause death by affecting your heart.”
BONES and JOINTS
CDC -- The CDC’s ATSDR states the following about bone and joint health…
CDC - “…exposure to higher levels of fluoride may harm your health. Skeletal fluorosis can be caused by eating, drinking or breathing very large amounts of fluorides. This disease only occurs after long term exposures (because Fluoride accumulates with the ongoing daily bone formations of every age group) and can cause denser bones, joint pain, and a limited range of joint movement. …severe cases, the spine completely rigid…”
CDC - “…it is more common in places where people do not get proper nutrition…”
CDC - “…fluoride can result in denser bones…these bones are often more brittle or fragile than normal bone and there is an increased risk of older men and women breaking a bone. Some studies have also found a higher risk of bone fractures in older men and women at fluoride levels typically found in fluoridated water….”
CDC – The CDC’s ATSDR states that fluoride can accumulate in the soil, in water, in plants, and in fish and animals.
About half of the ingested Fluoride accumulates in the human body.
CDC -- The CDC states that Fluoride's "actions primarily are topical". There is no need to swallow Fluoride.

Go to any Sprouts Farmers Market in the Vitamin/Nutrition Department. Ask the associate to print out the information about the harmful effects of Fluoride complete with the PEER REVIEWED SCIENTIFIC STUDIES conducted at prestigious Universities and Institutions. Be prepared for a "small book".
Some of the studies include the toxic effects of Fluoride on the Aging Process, the Digestive System, the Kidneys, the Immune system (Liver Cancer, Osteosarcoma, Thyroid Cancer), Hypothyroidism, Joint Pain,, Bone Damage, Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, Fractures, Osteoporosis, Attention Span, Brain Damage, Intelligence, Memory, damage to the Pineal Gland (also possible sleep disorders could result because melatonin is produced via the Pineal), Damage to the Enamel of Teeth and also potentially making teeth brittle or increasing tooth decay with excessive fluoride use, increasing the risk of Infertility in both Males and Females, Brain defects in newborns resulting from excessive Fluoride during Pregnancy, accelerating the skin's aging process, etc.

Xylitol is a “tooth-friendly”, nonfermentable sugar alcohol. It appears to have more dental health benefits than many other substances. One aspect is that it allows Calcium to be transported through the gut wall barrier and through saliva which may remineralize enamel before cavities form.
Early studies from Finland in the 1970s found compared to chewing sucrose-flavored gum, xylitol resulted in nearly two fewer cavities or missing teeth. Cavity-causing bacteria prefer six-carbon sugars or disaccharides, while xylitol is non-fermentable and cannot be used as an energy source - while still being taken up into the cell (due to similar shape) and leaving no room for the six-carbon sugars, interfering with bacterial growth and reproduction. The harmful micro-organisms are starved in the presence of xylitol, allowing the mouth to remineralize damaged teeth with less interruption. This same property renders it unsuitable for making bread as it interferes with the ability of yeast to digest sugars. At least six grams of xylitol per day is thought to be needed for dental efficacy.
Xylitol also inhibits the growth of some harmful bacteria, such as ones that might cause pneumonia or influenza.
The perception of sweetness obtained from consuming xylitol initiates the body to secrete saliva that acts as a buffer system against the acidic environment created by the microorganisms in the dental plaque. So, the mouth is less acidic which helps to protect teeth.
Xylitol is categorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USDA) as a food additive. Like other sugar alcohol-sweetened products, xylitol-sweetened products are allowed to be labeled with the claim that they do not promote dental cavities.
DOG WARNING – Xylitol is toxic to dogs
In both humans and dogs, the level of blood sugar is controlled by the release of insulin from the pancreas.
Xylitol does not stimulate the release of insulin from the pancreas in humans.
However, when non-primate species (e.g., a dog) eat something containing xylitol, the xylitol is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, resulting in a potent release of insulin from the pancreas. This rapid release of insulin results in a rapid and profound decrease in the level of blood sugar (hypoglycemia), an effect that occurs within 10-60 minutes of eating the xylitol. Untreated, this hypoglycemia can be life-threatening.
By the way, there are many natural substances which help to maintain gum and teeth health.

The CDC administrates the “Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry” (ATSDR). In the ATSDR’s “Public Health Statement for Fluorides”, some of the toxicology of Fluoride is discussed.
The ATSDR (1.2) states that fluoride can accumulate in the soil, in water, in plants, and in fish and animals.
Fluoride is now ubiquitous (all over the place) in our environment.
It is in many drugs, definitely pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, Teflon pans, plastics, most of our foods and beverages of which some contain significant amounts of fluoride per the USDA list of over 400 foods and beverages, etc.
So, these many sources of Fluoride compound the problem. There is also water run-off from these pesticides and fertilizers which adds to the fluoride content of water and soil. Watering plants with fluoridated water builds up in the soil and plants. In addition, when people urinate, they excrete fluoride which is placed into the water supply which later is utilized as source water for other municipalities for their drinking water.

Here's my response to the most common questions about the fluoride debate.
~ Q. Why are you so opposed to fluoride in the water? Doesn't it help prevent cavities? B.S. Dallas.
~ A. I am opposed to adding additional levels of fluoride to city water for three basic reasons.
1. Fluoride used to treat water is a toxic chemical. Despite the critics saying otherwise, fluoride has proven links to several diseases and other ill-effects in animals and humans. Water is fluoridated by means of the chemicals sodium fluoride, sodium fluorosilicate, and fluorosilicic acid (FSA). These chemicals are waste byproducts of the manufacture of phosphate fertilizers. Trace amounts of contaminants - including antimony, barium, beryllium and arsenic - remain in these fluoridation chemicals. The acid product is what the city of Dallas uses.
2. The numbers don’t make sense. In the Dallas case currently being debated, fluoride exists naturally in the drinking water at around .5 parts per million. The city has been spending more than a $1,000,000 a year adding .2 ppm to raise the level to .7 ppm. If fluoride worked like the proponents suggest, the .5 ppm should be plenty. At my house we filter our water to get it down to as close to 0 ppm as possible.
3. There is strong evidence that ingesting fluoride from the drinking water doesn’t even help to prevent cavities. Teeth would have to be treated directly and even then the research (that few of the fluoride pushers seem to read) points toward ineffectiveness at best. Related to this, there is no dose control – small children get the same dose as adults whether anyone wants it or not.

City of Dallas Votes to Discontinue Adding Toxic
Waste to Municipal Water
Led by the courageous District 9 councilman, Sheffie Kadane, Dallas City Council has voted to discontinue the policy of spending more than $1,000,000. 00 a year to increase fluoridation of the city’s already naturally fluoridated water supply. Although many other cities around the world have decided to stop “fluoridation”, this historic event makes Dallas the largest city in the U.S. to discontinue the use of fluorosilicic acid (FSA) and similar industrial sources of fluoride.
Local activist Regina Imburgia and her colleagues have successfully encouraged many local, regional, state and international experts to weigh in on the side of the change. Many in favor of the change praised the open-mindedness of the council to listen to the opinions and science from both sides before making this landmark decision.
The above headline could actually be running in the Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star Telegram and other papers, magazines, and blogs next week, January 29, after the big vote the day before. I am opposed to adding additional levels of fluoride to city water for three basic reasons.
1. Natural fluoride is not what we are concerned about. The fluoride used to treat municipal water is a toxic chemical. Despite the critics saying otherwise, fluoride has proven links to several diseases and other ill-effects in animals and humans. Water is fluoridated by means of the chemicals sodium fluoride, sodium fluorosilicate, and fluorosilicic acid (FSA). These chemicals are waste byproducts of the manufacture of phosphate fertilizers and other industrial products. Contaminants - including antimony, barium, beryllium and arsenic - remain in these fluoridation chemicals. The acid product is what the city of Dallas uses.
2. The numbers don’t make sense. In the Dallas case currently being debated, natural fluoride exists in the drinking water at around .5 parts per million. The city has been spending more than a $1,000,000 a year adding .2 ppm toxic waste to raise the level to .7 ppm. If fluoride worked like the proponents suggest, the .5 ppm would be plenty. Some ague the point that tooth decay is down because of fluoridation. The truth is that there is no significant difference in the incidence of tooth decay between cities that fluoridate and those that do not.
3. There’s a better way to apply fluoride. For those who approve of fluoride use, treating teeth topically is far more effective than ingesting it. Treating water offers no dose control – small children get the same dose as adults whether it’s wanted or not. 95% of the toothpastes on the market contain fluoride so people can use all they want. However, even the organizations that promote the use of fluoride warn strongly against children less than 2 years old using fluoridated toothpaste and also warn against anyone swallowing the products. They also warn strongly against fluoride being in infant formulas or mother’s milk.
On January 28th the Dallas City Council should vote to end the use of toxic industrial waste fluoride.

Summary
Neurodevelopmental disabilities, including autism, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and other cognitive impairments, affect millions of children worldwide, and some diagnoses seem to be increasing in frequency. Industrial chemicals that injure the developing brain are among the known causes for this rise in prevalence. In 2006, we did a systematic review and identified five industrial chemicals as developmental neurotoxicants: lead, methylmercury, polychlorinated biphenyls, arsenic, and toluene. Since 2006, epidemiological studies have documented six additional developmental neurotoxicants—manganese, fluoride, chlorpyrifos, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, tetrachloroethylene, and the polybrominated diphenyl ethers. We postulate that even more neurotoxicants remain undiscovered. To control the pandemic of developmental neurotoxicity, we propose a global prevention strategy. Untested chemicals should not be presumed to be safe to brain development, and chemicals in existing use and all new chemicals must therefore be tested for developmental neurotoxicity. To coordinate these efforts and to accelerate translation of science into prevention, we propose the urgent formation of a new international clearinghouse.

The video is from January 28th, 2015 when the Dallas City Council took a vote on whether or not to continue the water fluoridation program by renewing a 3 year contract with Mosaic, the provider of the EPA's classified toxic hazardous waste.

The 2006 National Research Council on Fluoride in Drinking Water commented to the EPA that fluoridation at 1 ppm can be anticipated to be harmful for those with reduced renal function and the elderly. The NRC confirmed that fluoride not excreted by kidneys builds up in bones, resulting in arthritic pain and increased brittleness. However, there were no EPA studies on the whole health impacts of fluoridated water on susceptible population such as kidney patients, children, those with prolonged disease or the elderly. There still aren’t.
However, there is mounting science from other sources that “optimally fluoridated” water, which is known to cause varying degrees of dental fluorosis in 58% of Black American adolescents and 36% of White American adolescents, is causing subtle deficits in ability to remember or focus. That same “optimal level” has also been proved in a 2014 study as being nephrotoxic in rats with chronic kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects approximately 15% of Americans, although CKD is quadruple the rate in Black Americans, and predictably worse in older Americans.
Perhaps the most horrifying part of the story of fluoridation is that not only is at least 50% of every drop of fluoride that has passed the lips of a Baby Boomer permanently stored in bones, fluoride isn't the only poison in packages of fluoride that originate as the waste product of aluminum an phosphate industry. 100% of the fluoride sampled in a 2014 study was contaminated with aluminum; arsenic and lead were other common contaminants. In other words, fluoridated water serves as a delivery system for aluminum and lead into our bones and our brains. As we all know, aluminum is associated with Alzheimers in adults, and lead is associated with learning disabilities in children. Approximately 15% of the population who is sensitive to chemicals cite inability to think clearly and overwhelming fatigue as symptoms of exposure to fluoridated water.
Our generation was part of a great human experiment. It may have had noble intentions based on the faulty hypothesis that drinking fluoride prevented cavities. It is now known that any perceived benefits of fluoride are from tooth brushing. Our grandchildren are the third generation in this travesty. FLUORIDE: Cancer, Science & Politics
This video was recorded at the Cancer Control Convention in Pasadena, California, about 1991-1992.
Dr. John Yiamouyiannis, (pronounced Yah-meh-YAH-nis), (1943-2000) was a biochemist and founder of the "Safe Water Foundation", USA.
Dr. Yiamouyiannis's studies along with Dr. Dean Burk determined that cancer death rates increased after fluoridation in the 1950s. The findings caused great concern among many Americans in the 1970's which prompted Congressional hearings in 1977 followed by a 21-day court trial in Pennsylvania. There, the presiding judge was compellingly convinced of the adverse effects of fluoridation and ordered its halt as a public health hazard.

FLUORIDE and CANCER
Dr. Dean Burk of National Cancer Institute (50 years of cancer research) and Dr. Yiamouyiannis completed a monumental research project in 1977 in which they compared cancer death rates in 10 fluoridated and 10 non-fluoridated US cities between 1940 and 1970. The results are on p75 of Fluoride the Aging Factor. (see IMAGE below ( LINK ) and also see the graph in the video below.)
The unmistakable fact is that the graph shows that for the first ten years (1940-1950), when none of the 20 cities fluoridated, the average cancer deaths were virtually identical. But after 1950, there is a major increase in cancer deaths in every single one of the fluoridated cities, while the nonfluoridated cities remain clustered together at a much lower level of death.
They actually put a number on it:
" ... 30,000 to 50,000 deaths each year from various causes may now be attributable to fluoridation. This total includes 10,000 to 20,000 deaths attributable to fluoride-induced cancer every year."
These findings were first confirmed, then denied by the National Cancer Institute (what a surprise). Finally the research was upheld as valid in two separate state courts, Pennsylvania and Illinois.
Dr. William Hirzy, an official from EPA (retired) explains: "Fluoride is a broad-spectrum mutagen. It can cause genetic damage in both plant and animal cells."
Once again, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Hundreds of scientific studies conducted and reported in the most credible universities and agencies throughout the world for the past 25 years have found an unmistakable correlation between fluoridation and cancer deaths. Even the professional opinion makers can't just make all this data vanish.

Taylor and Taylor published a study in 1965 at the University of Texas in all the mainline medical journals showing that 1 ppm or even 0.5 ppm increased tumour growth rate by 25%.
Dallas has 0.7 ppm in its water. Dallas water goes to 25 surrounding cities.
The Dallas City Council members are entirely culpable for any fluoride facilitated cancer or other fluoride related health issues.
They blatantly ignored scientific literature which shows that fluoride can cause adverse health effects. This website documents their casual disregard for science and also their disregard for the health of millions of people in the Dallas area.

HOW FLUORIDE AFFECTS THE DNA REPAIR MECHANISM Epidemiological evidence shows that fluoride causes cancer. It does this in several ways. It can actually cause the original lesion. In each one of our cells we have genetic material called DNA, and this DNA is double stranded, it has a helix shape and these two strands of DNA are held together by semi strong bonds called hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonds also hold proteins together. Fluoride goes in and breaks those hydrogen bonds, and consequently destabilizes DNA. It can't cause a lesion in the DNA itself, but if it is in a site of the cell that regulates cell growth, it will cause uncontrolled cell growth. A few minor modifications will give you first a tumour, and secondly an invasive tumour or cancer. So fluoride has the ability to actually cause the cancer. We have a marvelous system of repair and rejuvenation. Even if we go out in the sun, even if we have a lesion by fluoride itself, we have what is called a DNA repair enzyme system. So any lesion caused by the sun or ultra-violet light will be repaired. The DNA repair enzyme system will cut off the ends and use the complementary strand to repair itself and make intact genetic material. The unfortunate thing is that one part per million fluoride, the amount of fluoride that they use in the public water system, depresses the DNA repair system by 50%. So they have attacked us on the first defense of damage to our genetic material. Since people can get cancer from so many different causes, fluoride is just increasing our chances of getting cancer.
THE IMMUNE SYSTEM Even if the cancer cell starts dividing and invading surrounding tissues, if our immune system is strong enough, it will kill those cancer cells without any remedies, without chemotherapy, without anything and will destroy the occasional cancer that maybe all of us have had at one time or another. Once in a while cancer breaks through when the immune system is low or the DNA repair enzyme system is down, and we will get cancer. Fluoride causes the lesion; it inhibits the DNA repair enzyme, and then inhibits our immune system by 30 to 70%. And that occurs at only one part per million. How does it do that? Our immune system is composed of white blood cells including phagocyte cells that are carried in the blood system. If there is an infection or cancer or some foreign agent, these phagocytes will go to that area and start engulfing and destroying this bad agent whether it is a cancer cell or a bacterium or virus. It engulfs it in a little pocket called a lysosome which squirts enzymes and breaks down the bad agent into little pieces. They have other things called peroxisomes which burn that agent with free radicals and either destroy it or use it for building new and healthy cells. These phagocytes will actually eat up bacteria or viruses, and toxic substances are just thrown off. Studies from the University of Glasgow show that fluoride inhibits these white blood cells. Fluoride at levels below one part per million causes a chronic release of these free radicals from the white blood cell out into the blood stream where it starts slowly damaging your body by increasing free radicals. This is one of the reasons why we call fluoride the ageing factor.

Professor Paul Connett: Your Toxic Tap Water
Dr Paul Connett is probably one of the world's experts on Fluoride. His credentials in Chemistry and Toxicology are beyond reproach.
Dallas was fortunate in that Dr. Connett has come to Dallas on several occasions!!!
Not only did he deliver a dynamic presentation to the Dallas City Council on June 14, 2014, but also on October 20, 2014 he held a huge educational event at White Rock Lake Winfrey Point, "The Town Hall on Fluoridation". These presentations are available on the "City Council" page.
Dr. Paul Connett, Professor of Chemistry at St. Lawrence University in New York, gives a damning interview on the history of water fluoridation, the collusion of major industries to put certified toxic waste into your drinking water, and why government health authorities refuse to conduct scientific studies into the dangers of fluoridation. After watching this video, you will never look at tap water the same way again.
Connett describes how he initially thought people who opposed fluoridation were "a bunch of whackos," before conducting his own research which found that sodium fluoride was a toxic substance that contributed to a wide array of health defects. Heavy industry is barred from dumping this toxic waste into the sea by international law, but being able to sell it enables them to remove its hazardous characteristic and it becomes a product, explains Connett, polluting not only our water supply but also toothpaste and thousands of different foods.
Connett provides a detail run down of the many health problems caused by fluoride consumption, including dental fluorosis, which the Centers For Disease Control just recently announced was a problem for 41 per cent of children aged 12-15 in the United States, clearly indicating that children are being over-exposed to fluoride and that this is affecting other tissues and organs in the body, including bone disorders, a problem also wreaking havoc amongst adults in the United States as one in three now suffer from arthritis, which again is being caused by a build-up of toxic fluoride in the body. Connett also points to fluoride's connection with thyroid disorders.
There have now been over 100 studies involving animals which show that fluoride damages the brain, stresses Connett, which is a particular concern for newborn babies who are susceptible to fluoride build up because of their weak blood-brain barrier. Connett cites numerous studies which prove a link between moderate exposure to fluoride and lowered IQ in children.
Fluoride's impact on the pineal gland, which is a piece of brain tissue that sits in-between the two hemispheres of the brain, is key because fluoride attracts to this gland like a magnet. Researchers have found through animal studies that fluoride lowers the ability of the pineal gland to produce the hormone melatonin, which in turn shortens the time it takes to reach puberty, correlating with studies of fluoridated communities that show girls are on average menstruating 5 months earlier than those in non-fluoridated communities. Children are entering puberty at increasingly early stages and this is causing widespread concern, but health authorities have made no effort whatsoever to conduct any studies regarding this development and its link to fluoride.
